Since 1947, the state-operated ferry system has provided valuable connections between points on North Carolina's coast. Visitors and tourists enjoy using the ferry to explore our Outer Banks and coastal communities. But for many coastal North Carolina residents, the ferries are a way of life. They provide access to and from work, school and shopping.
