- This section includes some of the projects and courses that School faculty have developed to advance the ILS profession and academic preparation.
- With the assistance of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the School has embarked on the Kellogg Coalition on Reinventing Information Science,Technology, and Library Education (CRISTAL-ED), a five-year project to reinvent such education to meet the changing needs of information professionals.
- The faculty have established projects that directly benefit the community. In many cases, the goal is to set up a pilot project, and at the same time, train local information professionals to manage the project. This ensures the long-term success of the project and local community participation.
- M-VISION is developing opportunities for information professionals to pursue
training and professional development within their fields, or to simply realize a
desire to participate in lifelong learning. The unique and rich resources of the
University of Michigan and the knowledge of its world class faculty, researchers and
staff have been crafted into a wide variety of resources designed specifically for
computer based delivery to individuals -- anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
- The amount of annual funded research at the School has risen steadily. In 1988-89, SILS received $130,000 in external research support. By comparison, in 1994-95, the figure climbed to approximately $3.75 million. The School's total current funded research (including multiyear projects) stands at $14,927,999.
