This is the jumping-off place for information about how to get into the
University. In considering your application to UT-Austin, you may first want to
review the various undergraduate or graduate degrees we
offer.
The information you need as a prospective student depends on the type of applicant you
are. Each category below includes information on admission requirements and procedures, and
describes how to contact the appropriate campus office by conventional postal service,
telephone, fax, or e-mail. Except for the School of Law, each category also provides a
link to UT's online admission application.
- Entering Freshman
- If you are, or soon will be, a high school graduate with no previous college
attendance, apply as an entering freshman. You can apply as an entering freshman
if you have taken college courses while still in high school, but if you
graduated from high school and took any college coursework afterward you should
apply as a transfer student (see below).
- Undergraduate Transfer Student
- If you attended a college or university after leaving high school, apply as a
transfer student. You should apply as a transfer student even if you withdrew
from the college before earning any credit or if you earned only nontransferable
credit.
- Graduate Student
- If you have at least a bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, from an
accredited college or university and wish to pursue a master's or doctorate
degree, apply as a graduate student.
- International Student
- An international student is anyone who is not a U.S. citizen or who does not
hold a U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (i.e. "Green Card"). This category
includes international applicants at all levels (entering freshman, transfer, and
graduate).
- Re-admission Student
- If you are a former UT-Austin student and wish to resume study at the
University, apply as a Re-admission student. (Note: if you are a former UT-
Austin graduate student seeking to return at the graduate level it may be
necessary for you to apply as a graduate applicant. Read the Re-admission page
first to determine which procedures apply in your case.)
- Summer Transient Student
- If you are a student at another college or university and wish to attend UT-
Austin as a visiting student during the summer only, apply as a transient
student.
- Law School Admission
- The School of Law has its own admission office, separate from the main
campus, with distinct procedures, requirements, and Web presence.
