ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH AND ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME
The responsibility of WMO within the United Nations system is to provide the authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the atmosphere and climate of the Earth. This is managed through the Atmospheric Research and Environment Programme (AREP) which coordinates and fosters research on the structure and the chemical composition of the atmosphere and its related physical characteristics; the physics of weather processes and weather forecasting.
FOUR MAIN COMPONENTS
The four major components of the AREP are:
- Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW)
- Tropical Meteorology Research
- Physics and Chemistry of Clouds and Weather Modification Research
The Commission for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS) proposes to WMO Congress the overall scientific orientations of the programmes.
