Sirius Connections PPP Accounts
A PPP (Point to Point Protocol) dial-up account can connect you to the
Internet, giving you access to all the Internet resources that are
available. The PPP account requires a PPP program to be run on your
computer to connect to us, creating a network connection through
your modem. The account is set up so you have an email address in the
form of yourname@sirius.com
(limited to 8
characters) with 1 megabyte of email storage space. You use a POP client
(like Eudora) on your computer to download your mail and to send any outgoing
mail.
Why PPP?
By using PPP you essentially connect your computer at home with the
Internet. You can get a large assortment of applications to use the
various resources available. The World Wide Web, Usenet News, FTP, the IRC,
multiuser games, software libraries and anything else on the Internet can be
accessed through these programs. We do not limit you to a proprietary
interface or to a UNIX shell account; instead you get to choose which
applications you find most useful.
We do have a 3 hour limit policy during peak hours, which only means
that you should log off for a short while and log right back on if you need to.
We recommend picking up the
Internet Starter Kit
that comes with Macintosh software or the Netscape Navigator Personal
Edition for Windows to get you connected as quickly as possible. Another
package we recommend is
Internet In A
Box
that is available for both Macintosh and Windows as well. We have configuration
description files to configure the software you choose to work with Sirius
Connections.
