In the midst of a major comprehensive research university and with its existing equipment and experienced personnel, SCRI supports interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations. SCRI consists of a number of in-house computationally-intensive focus teams of scientists, mathematicians, and computer scientists doing research in applications areas which serve as nuclei or vital components for significant collaborations. These focus teams are responsible for maintaining a dialogue with all members of the collaborations regarding facilities, research developments, and technical support at SCRI.
In this spirit, SCRI promotes computational science as the interlocking foundation to synthesize new disciplines as envisioned above and to boost activity in a number of existing disciplines. We emphasize the importance of the synergism which results from collaborations between DOE-funded SCRI scientists and faculty funded by the State of Florida and other grants. The mutual benefit of this research to the DOE, other agencies of the U.S. government, and the State of Florida is a significant result of siting SCRI at this research university.
