"Microsoft has always been driven by a consistent vision - a computer on every desk and in every home (running Microsoft software). Whether that vision is rich enough to support the companyís effort in the coming years depends on our willingness to broaden our terms. Because now computer technology is going to be in every television set and in virtually every place there is electricity. Many of these coming technologies will provide opportunities for new kinds of Microsoft software. But that doesnít mean we will be abandoning what we do today. We will be in fiber optics, digital TV, ATM switches. And every PC will be on the global network. These changes will create a need for information and content-centered software that hasnít existed before. The question is whether Microsoft will be prepared to lead the way in meeting that need. While the exact twists and turns the information highway will take are impossible to predict, I see us being well positioned to keep on course."
