Supplementary Release Note Information

The following information supplements the Release Notes for Microsoft® Internet Information Server Version 1.0.

Registry Entry: ObjectCacheTTL

This Registry entry controls the TTL (Time to Live) setting, which defines the length of time that objects are held in cached memory. The range is 0 - 0x7FFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF and the unit is seconds. The default setting is 30 seconds. ObjectCacheTTL has the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\System
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\InetInfo
\Parameters
\ObjectCacheTTL: REG_DWORD

If an object in the memory cache has not been referenced for the defined period, that object will be phased out of the cache. If system memory is limited or the server's contents are dynamic, you can use a lower TTL to prevent system memory from being used to cache a large number of volatile objects. Setting the value to 0xFFFFFFFF disables the object cache scavenger and allows cached objects to remain in the cache until they are overwritten. Disabling the cache is useful if your server has ample system memory and your data is relatively static.

Removing NetBIOS when Bindings are Disabled

If you disable all NetBIOS bindings but leave NetBIOS installed on your server, Internet Information Server will not start. To avoid system failure, either remove NetBIOS when bindings are disabled, or leave at least one binding enabled. To remove NetBIOS, open the Network applet in the Control Panel, select "NetBIOS Interface" from the list of Installed Network Software, a nd click Remove. To change the settings for bindings, use the Bindings button on the Network applet.
