Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced today it is teaming up with Digital Equipment Corp., MCI and Motorola Inc. to bring developers the Microsoft(R) Professional Developers Conference (PDC) -- Building Internet Applications, which will run March 12-14 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This team makes possible a conference and trade show that will deliver to developers information about the cutting-edge tools, technologies and hardware they will need to develop Internet applications.
Digital and Motorola will provide the servers and workstations, Microsoft will provide the applications and tools, and MCI will provide the T1 and T3 lines around which a sophisticated intranet will be built for the three-day conference. This communications network will allow conference attendees to customize an information environment that suits their needs and interests. In addition to keeping attendees updated on the latest conference news and events, the PDC communications network will also enable them to send and receive e-mail. A hands-on exhibit will give developers the opportunity to try the technologies they will be hearing about. Digital, MCI and Motorola will also be the major exhibitors at the conference's trade show.
Several thousand developers are expected to be on hand when the conference opens. In addition to the trade show, the conference itself will offer developers the choice of a wide range of technical breakout sessions and keynote addresses from Microsoft's gurus on operating systems, tools and applications.
The cost of the conference is $1,045; the preconference tracks cost $299. To register, call (800) 545-8240, or (612) 550-6390 outside North America. Operators will be available from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. To register online, send e-mail to msevent@cci.cmgt.carlson.com.
