Group Vice President, Applications and Content

Pete Higgins is group vice president of Applications and Content and reports to Microsoft CEO Bill Gates as a member of the Office of the President. The Applications and Content group comprises a number of Microsoft divisions, including Desktop Applications, Consumer, Research, and Microsoft On-line Systems. This group, which had 1994 annual revenues exceeding $3.2 billion, creates an extensive line of products ranging from Microsoft Word and Excel, the world’s most popular productivity applications for personal computers, to multimedia content titles such as Microsoft Encarta and Cinemania.

Higgins, who joined Microsoft in 1983, has held a variety of positions in product and program management. Most recently he was senior vice president of DAD, responsible for driving strategy, development, and marketing for Microsoft Office, Microsoft's leading applications product. He also managed the individual product units for Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.

Higgins served two years as a member of the Washington Software Associations Board of Directors and the Software Publishers Association Board of Directors. He holds a masters of business administration as well as a bachelor of arts in economics and history from Stanford University.

In his free time, Higgins can be found on a golf course or at his private salmon hatchery which he runs himself.
