E-mail Server with Integrated Groupware
Version 4.0
Microsoft Exchange Server integrates e-mail, group scheduling, electronic forms, and groupware applications on a single platform that can be managed with a centralized, easy-to-use administration program. It is designed to make messaging easier, more reliable, and more scalable for businesses of all sizes.
Until now, businesses looking for a messaging system had two choices. Host-based systems provide powerful administration capabilities, but are costly and don't integrate with PC-based applications. LAN-based systems integrate with PC-based applications, but lack scalability and reliability. Microsoft Exchange Server is the e-mail server with integrated groupware that eliminates these trade-offs while it makes communicating easier.
Microsoft Exchange Server is e-mail finally done right. It provides the reliability and security essential to mission-critical applications. Messages are delivered quickly and consistently and can be signed and sealed with digital signatures and encryption to ensure security. And native support for Internet and X.400 connectivity allows you to communicate beyond your enterprise.
Groupware is also built into Microsoft Exchange, providing a single platform for bulletin boards, customer tracking applications, and document libraries. The Microsoft Exchange Client makes it easy to create and customize these kinds of applications, as well as to schedule meetings. In addition, Microsoft Exchange includes an integrated Forms Designer and supports the Visual Basic® programming system and the Visual C++ development system for customizing applications even further.
Installing and configuring Microsoft Exchange is easy. Routing and directory synchronization are configured automatically for servers within a site. And it leverages Windows NT Server to coexist with other systems, such as NetWare®.
Best of all, the graphical Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program provides a single-seat view of your entire system. You can manage all users and components from a single console. Intelligent monitors automatically notify you of problems and reset the system.
In short, Microsoft Exchange Server can make your business communications easier. And it integrates seamlessly with the rest of the Microsoft BackOffice family of server products to create powerful client/server solutions that help you make the most of a world of information.
The modular, client/server architecture in Microsoft Exchange provides all the components for distributed enterprise-wide messaging.
The Microsoft Exchange Client provides a single interface for sending, sharing, and managing information in both personal and public folders.
Microsoft Exchange Server reliably moves e-mail and files through your system regardless of the number of users or servers, so it can grow with your business.
Users can access e-mail, meeting requests, electronic forms, faxes, and more from the Microsoft Exchange Client. Special server-based rules automatically process incoming messages, even when users are out of the office. And rich-text formatting and editing capabilities make it easier for users to get their points across.
Microsoft Exchange Server supports multiple connections between sites, so if one connection goes down the system automatically reroutes messages through another. And it balances the load over the remaining connections to maximize performance. Its fault-tolerant database combined with "hot" backup and service capabilities virtually eliminate server downtime.
Plus, Microsoft Exchange Server incorporates native X.400 and SMTP connectivity to communicate far beyond your organization. Built-in remote connectivity taps into the remote-access services (RAS) in Windows NT Server to allow users to exchange information with just about anyone, anywhere, at any time.
Microsoft Exchange public folders provide server-to-server replication and enable information sharing throughout a geographically dispersed organization. A suite of applications is included that enables users to get started quickly with common groupware applications. And no programming is required to create electronic forms using the Microsoft Exchange Forms Designer, or to create custom views for displaying information. These forms and views can be combined with public folders to create bulletin boards, document libraries, and customer-tracking applications. Developers can customize these applications even further with Visual Basic or Visual C++.
Fully integrated with Microsoft Exchange Server, Schedule+ provides powerful group scheduling for all the users and resources across a distributed organization.
Organizations now running Microsoft Mail can use the Migration Wizard to move users to Microsoft Exchange Server. In the meantime, current Microsoft Mail users can easily exchange messages and meeting requests with Microsoft Exchange, using the integrated Microsoft Mail Connector.
Tight integration with Windows NT Server enables you to create Microsoft Exchange mailboxes at the same time you add users to Windows NT Server. Plus you can troubleshoot and track system performance using tools in Windows NT Server.
The Microsoft Exchange Forms Designer makes it possible to build custom forms without programming.
Users and planners can view schedules the way that works best for them: daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly.
Rich-text formatting: Familiar word-processing
features such as character and paragraph formatting help produce
attention-getting messages.
Spelling checker: Check your messages automatically before
sending to ensure professional communications.
AutoText: Store frequently used text, formatting, graphics,
or messages for automatic insertion at the end of messages.
Drag-and-drop editing: Drag spreadsheets and graphics into
your mail message, and then use OLE to edit them in place.
Replicating public folders enable information sharing for electronic bulletin boards, document libraries, and tracking applications.
Meeting planners can use Schedule+ to view free and busy times for all meeting attendees.
Microsoft Exchange public folders make it easy for users to create custom views for displaying information the way they want.
Users can associate permissions, views, and forms with public folders in just a few steps.
By displaying the entire organization in a hierarchical structure, the Administrator program enables you to navigate and manage all elements in a geographically dispersed system.
The Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program makes it easy to set properties for all system components.
