After studying computer science
at the Vienna University of Technology, I joined the
Department of Medical Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Vienna (IMKAI), and,
after its inception in 1984,
also the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI).
Since then, I have been affiliated with these two institutions,
where I do research and teaching.
For those interested, here is my official CV.
Research
My research is concentrated mainly in the natural language processing / computational linguistics (NLP/CL) field
(here is my publications list).
Within this area, I have been specializing in natural language generation.
In my PhD Thesis, I presented
A Systematic Account of Natural Language Generation and Its Application.
Another research interest of mine is speech and its relation to NLP.
At the IMS at Stuttgart University, where I spent some months as a guest researcher,
I investigated
Prosodic Cues to Semantics and Discourse Structure.
Private Interests
A fair amount of my leisure time is devoted to dancing
Argentine tango
and flamenco.
Additionally, I have some other interests which I lately do not find much time to pursue,
like ham radio (callsign: OE1EBC), sailing, and literature.
