The second edition of the Central Index of Canadian World Wide Web Servers has been awarded the Best Canadian On-Line Resource Award at the Net95 conference, held at Carleton University from June 20 to 22, 1995.

Competing with several other on-line resources, the Central Index of Canadian WWW Servers won a special achievement award in the Best On-Line Resource on the Canadian segment of the Internet.

The first release of the on-line Canadian WWW Central Index was extensively used by people in 93 countries during the period of March 1994 to December 1994, totaling 780,000 connections to the server, operated within the Institute for Space and Terrestrial Science, an Ontario Centre of Excellence located in North York, Ontario.

As the first release became quickly out-of-date, a second release with expanded features, including daily updates, was designed by Cyberspace Research (CsR) and appeared on the World Wide Web on February 1st, 1995. Success was immediate, with more than 200,000 connections in the first two months of on-line access.

The second release features Canadian WWW Server lists organized by province, cities, and scope, as well as dynamic lists of new servers and services, and on-line registration services, all free-of-charge for the benefit of the Internet community at large.

"One of the greatest challenges on the Internet, and the World Wide Web in particular, is simply the raw amount of information available. Since there is no central authority to keep track of that information, many users never manage to locate the information that they are seeking on the Internet. The Central Index of Canadian WWW Servers was designed precisely to help users on the Internet to locate, in a user-friendly way and free-of-charge, on-line resources within the Canadian segment of the Internet.", said Mr. Benoit Turgeon, project manager at Cyberspace Research.

The Second Release of the Canadian WWW Server Central Index is a not-for-profit project of Cyberspace Research and can be accessed at the Uniform Resource Locator (URL):

on the World Wide Web, and is maintained on a daily basis by Mr. Benjamin Sugars.
