A Brief history of NET TOOB

The NET TOOB (TM) multimedia viewer was developed by Duplexx Software Inc. of Salem MA in cooperation with their strategic partner CompCore Multimedia Inc. The goal is to provide a single, easy to use utility, which will play back all the digital video standards, as well as real time audio and video via the Internet. NET TOOB (TM) enables playback of MPEG, MPEG-1, Video for Windows (AVI) ,Quicktime for Windows (MOV), and will soon offer an upgrade to enable real time audio and video MPEG-1 via the internet. This same utility offers video screen saver capabilities, so users can create a personalized screen saver with any video they enjoy.

What You Need To Run NET TOOB (TM)

First, you will need the NET TOOB (TM) viewer ( 871K ).

At least: Microsoft Windows 3.1 with a VGA monitor running in 256 colors, 4MB RAM and a 486 IBM compatible computer. No add-on hardware is required to playback digital video.

NET TOOB (TM) will automatically set itself up as a Web Browser helper application to enable video playback for Netscape, Spry Air Mosaic, Spyglass enhanced Mosaic, Chameleon and America Online. If you have a different browser and want to setup NET TOOB (TM) as your MPEG-1 video helper application for your browser, find the "preferences" section and under "video/mpeg" choose "dxplayer.exe". Make sure that the extensions include "M15" and "M75".

NET TOOB (TM) will play any MPEG file for two weeks after installation. After two weeks, the software will stop playing certain types of MPEG files unless the viewer is registered. Please register if you plan to use the viewer, we're a small company and the software is inexpensive.

If you'd like NET TOOB to play other types of digital video, you will need:

• AVI files - Video for Windows driver ( 1.23Mb ).
• FLC and FLI files - WAAPLAY driver ( 150K ).
• MOV files - Quicktime for Windows driver availible at Apple's Quicktime Site.

MPEG for the Mac

Apple is feverishly working on a fully enabled MPEG-1 viewer. In the meantime, Sparkle, a freeware program written by New Zealander Maynard Handley, is the best Mac MPEG viewer. Sparkle uses the standard Mac Quicktime movie controller.

There is a .txt file that you should READ so you know how to install Sparkle and how to enhance playback quality. The files you want are:

• MAC_MPEG.TXT ( 3Kb )
• MAC_MPEG.SEA ( 960Kb ).

You can play NETTOOB MPEG files on Sparkle 2.4.5. If there is a "v.M15" (video only M15) and users put it in the same directory as the corresponding "v.WAV" file, Sparkle will play the 2 files together allowing synched audio. If you want to test it, try out
