OCEANOGRAPHY The research in the field of oceanography covers a range of topics including:
The work on ocean weather forecasting is focused on the 3D-HIROMB (HIgh Resolution Model of the Baltic). The development is done in co-operation with BSH in Hamburg. In climate and forecast research the Probe-Baltic (1D) model-system is also used. It divids the Baltic Sea area into a multi-basin system. In a special version of this model system a bio-geo-chemical model is coupled. Research in the field of remote sensing, mainly used for nowcasting at the institute, involves Radarsat SAR, ESA ERS-1,2 and NOAA AVHRR and for future use ocean colour information from pre-operational satellite systems as SeaWiFS and MOS.
