UW-Stevens Point 93 at La Crosse 57 In front of a loud home crowd of 493 people, the Eagles got shellacked and posted yet another WSUC loss. The game started out at a blistering pace with each team shooting at a near 80% clip early on as Stevens Point took an early 17-16 lead with 13 minutes and change left. Then, they went on a 20-0 run over the course of six minutes to take a 37-16 lead and they were never seriously challenged the rest of the way. During this run, the Eagles went from playing as well as they possibly could to playing as bad as they have ever played (with the exception of last years Eau Claire game). Shots wouldn't fall, and Point took advantage of La Crosse's turnstile defense to nail open shot after open shot. The score at half was 52-24 and the lead reached as high as 44 points during the second half. In the first half, Point shot an incredible 69% (20 of 29) including a spectacular 86% (6 of 7) from downtown. Only some late defense prevented UW-SP from reaching triple digits. Dan Denniston led the Pointers with 17 points. La Crosse was led by junior Eric Dudek's 14 points and Rob Slavens chipped in 10. Brian Elshoff led the Eagles with 6 rebounds. Once again, the Eagles struggled at the line, making only 5 of 13 shots. Once again, Chris Borth started for Melvin Veasley, who only played about 5 minutes in the second half after the outcome was already decided. In addition, Chuck Simpson missed this game too and will likely not be back for another week. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 7-9 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Stevens Point improved to 12-4 and 5-3 in the WSUC.
