The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
Presented by Mercedes-Benz Roars in With Time-Speed-Distance Rally
Amelia Island, FL (October 16, 1996) - The second invitational Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance features "The Mercedes-Benz Challenge" Rally Friday, March 7, 1997. This year's Concours d'Elegance honors the legendary Formula One World Driver's Champion Phil Hill and showcases Ferrari as the featured marque. The rally is expected to attract more than 160 entries.
The rally, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of North America, is a time-speed-distance race with enough challenges to interest the experienced rallyist as well as providing a good opportunity for the novice to get into the sport. The entry fee of $100 per car includes a catered buffet luncheon en route for the driver and navigator, with an additional fee of $25 per additional passenger.
All entrants compete in "seat-of-the-pants" mode - no calculators, computers, tables, or other aids will be permitted. The drivers' meeting is held at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 1997, with the first car out at 10 a.m. Entrants can expect to complete the course by 4:30 p.m. at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. Trophies are awarded approximately one hour after the final car finishes.
The rally is open to owners of all makes and models of automobiles. It is being coordinated by the local section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA), and will be run in accordance with commonly accepted rally rules. An open invitation is extended to members of other car clubs to participate in this premier event, with a special award going to the car club with the most participants.
