La Crosse 92 at Whitewater 69 The Eagles shocked the world and myself again last night, resurrecting a lost season with a glimmer of hope for the future. Coach Charlie Gross's charges went out and for the second game in a row, destroyed the second place team in the conference. Last week, Oshkosh, this time Whitewater. An early 9-0 run by the Eagles sparked them to an early lead and at halftime, the Eagles carried a 38-34 lead. early in the second half, Whitewater gained the lead at 42-40. It would be the last lead they would have. A 17-4 spurt by La Crosse pushed the lead to 68-54 with 7:34 left, and the Eagles won the game going away. Senior guard Wes Warren led the Eagles with 22 points, but Eric Dudek (19), Chuck Simpson (13) Melvin Veasley (11) and Jay Daly (11) all reached double figures as well. The team was aided by a blistering 9-16 effort from downtown, and dominated the Warhwaks on the glass as well, garnishing 38 caroms to UWW's 30. The win puts the Eagles only one game out of last place in the WSUC, trailing River Falls and Superior. Even better, La Crosse still has to play both teams. The win snapped a 17 game losing streak to Whitewater that dated back to 1987.
