Establishing an Online Account with NLM

Outside of the USA

You may be interested in direct access to NLM if there is no MEDLARS center in your country, or you prefer not to use the MEDLARS center in your country. To receive information about direct international access when plans become more definite, send an e-mail message to the MEDLARS Management Section (mms@nlm.nih.gov).

Within the USA

• MEDLARS/TOXNET/PDQ

  The MEDLARS, PDQ, and TOXNET services share accounts -- if you have an account for one, you automatically have an account for the others (a MEDLARS account also includes free access to the AIDS-related databases). To establish a MEDLARS/TOXNET/PDQ account, you must complete and return the following forms to the MEDLARS Management Section (address below):
  1. Application for MEDLARS/TOXNET/PDQ account
  2. Please read the Memorandum of Understanding that governs use of the account.

• Free AIDS Databases

  To apply for access to the free AIDS database components of MEDLARS, complete and return the following form to the MEDLARS Management Section (address below):
  1. Application form for free AIDS databases
  2. Please read the Memorandum of Understanding that governs use of the account.

• Grateful Med

  To gain access to NLM services via Grateful Med, you must complete and return the following forms to the MEDLARS Management Section (address below):
  1. Application for MEDLARS/TOXNET/PDQ account
  2. Order form for a copy of Grateful Med
  3. Please read the Memorandum of Understanding that governs use of the account.
