Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI)

From BWI, take Route 1 south to Washington, DC; then join the Capitol Beltway (Interstate route 495) at entrance 27, heading west toward Bethesda (see map). You may approach NIH/NLM by one of two routes:

• Leave route 495 at exit 19 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike), heading south for about 2 miles. Pass the National Naval Medical Center on the left, and turn right at Center Drive. Several roads to the left lead to parking areas.
• Leave route 495 at exit 18 (Old Georgetown Road), heading south for about 2 miles. Turn left into the NIH campus at either Greentree (South Drive) or Lincoln Street. You will now be heading east; continue heading in this general direction until you reach Center Drive, then turn right, heading south. Center Drive will swing to the left and head east as it nears the library complex. Several roads to the right lead to parking areas.
