The Natural History Museum at the British Association’s Annual Festival of Science Newcastle upon Tyne, 9-15 September

This year the British Association’s Annual Festival of Science on the theme of ‘Discovery and invention’ is taking place in Newcastle upon Tyne.

As part of the programme The Natural History Museum has organized a one day series of talks entitled ‘Exploring the unknown - keys and clues to unlocking some of the Earth’s mysteries’. This will look at some of the fascinating discoveries the Museum is constantly making about the world around us, from new species of micro- organisms and what microscopic plants can tell us about the environment, to just what is at the bottom of the deep sea or hidden in the fossil record.

Visitors to the festival will also be able to see some interesting and unusual specimens from the Museum’s collections and meet many of the scientists who will be staffing the exhibition site in the Hatton Gallery on the University Campus.

The Museum’s Travelling Discovery Centre, an interactive exhibition for 7-11 year- olds will be at the Hancock Museum in Newcastle that week. The touring giant robotic insect exhibition Megabugs will also be there.
