THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM'S LIFE GALLERIES


In the Life Galleries of the Natural History Museum you will find much to fascinate and intrigue, here is just a glimpse of some of the things you may encounter.


DINOSAURS may have been extinct for 65 million years, but in our animated display they are very much alive! Starting with the fossil evidence the exhibition explores the Natural History of dinosaurs and how scientists unearth and interpret the clues which give us such a vivid picture of these amazing creatures from the distant past.


HUMAN BIOLOGY allows you to enter the womb and explore our child development, just one of the many features in this renowned interactive exhibition.

ECOLOGY with its dramatic architecture and stunning audio visuals is a reminder of the fragile web of living connections which thread over the surface of our planet Earth. Explore the web of life and our responsibility as the stewards and guardians of biodiversity.


PRIMATES and OUR PLACE IN EVOLUTION explore the relationship between people and primates. Who are our closest living relatives? What is the fossil evidence of our Evolutionary past? Are we the only primates to use language? Are we the only primates who deceive our partners?


PLANT POWER is a stunning photographic exploration of the influence of plants on people. Here you will see how they feed us, cloth us, poison and heal us. They have shaped our history and will shape our future.

CREEPY CRAWLIES make many people squirm and reach for the fly swat. This highly hands-on exhibiton may make you think again, many insects and their relatives are beautiful and many others play crutial roles in our living world.


MAMMALS with its haunting songs of whales to guide you is an exhibition where you can meet the giant mammals of the land and sea, past and present.


ORIGIN OF SPECIES takes us on an exploration of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution examining how new species can emerge and introducing the principles of inheritance and the underlying genetic mechanism.


MARINE INVERTEBRATES is a beautifully lit, traditional display. You will wonder at the range of life from the depths including 5m long giant squids, delicate sea fans and displays of exotic shells.
BRITISH NATURAL HISTORY investigates the variety of wild-life in the UK. The specimen displays, organised by habitat type, are an invaluble reference guide to anyone with an interest in British Natural History.
