Subject: Update from RW for Internet Diary
We're 150 miles from Rarotonga, with our ETA there tomorrow morning at 1000 hours. We have been invited to an official function with the Prime Minister, Sir Geoffrey Henry, and opposition MPs, on Thursday night at which he plans to make a major announcement about the Cook Islands Government's action on French testing. This will be followed on our side by a public meeting at 8pm on the ship. On Friday we will be doing some school talks.
We've been wallowing around a bit in choppy seas today, so queasiness has hit a few of the crew. But spirits are high as we approach Rarotonga and the famous "Tere's Bar"... the only place to be on a Friday night in Rarotonga!
Richard Leney (mechanic) will leave the ship in Rarotonga to go to Auckland to help find new zodiacs. A new mate, Derek Nichols, will be joining us.
Our ETD from Rarotonga is Saturday morning, and we are scheduled to arrive in Fiji one week later, on Saturday 29 July. We've been really encouraged by all the amazing work GP offices have been doing around the world -- sorry if we haven't had time to respond to you all, but we really appreciate it! We're also feeling good about the flotilla plans which seem to be shaping up well in New Zealand and Australia. Along with the decision to send the MV Greenpeace to Moruroa too, it looks we'll be giving the French military something to really worry about soon!
Cheers, Stephanie
