Welcome to the home page for Free Agent(tm) -- the new force in online/offline Usenet newsreaders by Forté.
The beta program for Free Agent, our first newsreader product, is going very well. We've received lots of very positive feedback, along with many constructive suggestions for making the software even better. Some of these, such as improved binary file decoding, are already reflected in our first beta upissue release which is now available for downloading.
We're very excited about Free Agent, because it introduces features and conveniences not available in any other Winsock newsreader. And best of all, it's free! Check the Beta Program page to get your very own copy.
Even though it's still in beta testing, Free Agent is already drawing rave reviews. The publisher of the Consummate Winsock Applications List tested an early pre-release version and rated it as the best newsreader on the market, giving it 4 1/2 stars out of a possible five. (And yes, we're concerned about that missing 1/2 star. We'll try to earn it with our final release!)
A review in the April 3 issue of Network World magazine (p. 28) said that Free Agent "has the potential to become the Netscape of all Windows newsreaders." Besides praising its offline capabilities, interface, and configurability, the reviewer said "After using a beta version of Agent released last month, I've gone ahead and deleted at least a half dozen other newsreaders from my Windows Internet configuration."
We've heard similar things from our own beta testers - we're very pleased with Free Agent in its present form, and we're making it even better as the beta program continues.
