Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park, Alberta

Located near Milk River (an area which has been claimed, at one time or another, by Spain, France, the French Republic, the United States, Britain, Canada and the Hudson's Bay Company(!)), Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park is one of Alberta's most important archeological preserves. For centuries the local natives believed the region to be one of magical and spiritual strength. These beliefs are chronicled in one of the most extensive collections of native pictographs and petroglyphs in North America. Visitors to the area may tour the archeological preserve only during 1 1/2 hour tours offered (for free) from Mid-May until early September.Phone (403) 647-2364 for more details.
