Science Hall
The Science Hall is a hands-on introduction to many of the
basic concepts underlying later exhibits. Here's just a few of the exhibits
there are to see (and play with too!):
- Buoyancy: how marine organisms use this principle
to maintain and change depth.
- Viscosity: how this principle is central to the
physiology of the circulation of blood in animals and of sap in
trees.
- Refraction and Fiber Optics: just for
fun...
- Jet Propulsion: think humans invented this?
Nature beat us to it by a long, long time; some marine animals use
this same principle to get around!
- Mimicry: how some animals, especially
invertebrates, practice deception in order to avoid being eaten by
predators.
- Reaction time: test how fast your
reflexes are!
- Camouflage: how both predators and prey disguise
themselves to avoid detection (or from becoming lunch).
- Faulting: just how did those mountains
get there, anyway?
Be prepared to have to remind your children (or even your
parents) how much more to the museum there
still is to see!
