Fort MacLoead, Alberta, Canada
The town of Fort Macleod marks the site of the first Northwest
Mounted Police (precursors to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police)
outpost, extablished 1874. The Fort Museum in this community
of 3000 recreates thaa first outpost, complete with displays on the
NWMP, the native peoples, and the early settlers. During the
summer the Forts Mounted Patrol Musical Ride (not to be
confused with the RCMP Musical Ride) performs 4 times a day.
The Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
is located approximately 16 kilometers from Fort Macleod, and
is well worth the time to take in.
