FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- February 28, 1995 -- Borland International Inc. today announced that MCI has signed a two year site license for all Borland C++ products. Under the terms of the agreement, MCI can license any of Borland's C++ products, including Borland C++ 4.5, Borland C++ and Database Tools, and Borland C++ for OS/2, for the next two years. During this time, MCI intends to develop exclusively with Borland C++.
"This license agreement further reinforces Borland's reputation as the leading provider of software development tools," said Paul H. Gross, Borland's vice president of Research and Development. "We are pleased a leading communications company such as MCI has chosen to rely on Borland C++ as its primary development system."
"This agreement gives us easy and immediate access to the best C++ development system in the market," said James Ditmore, MCI's director of Application Development Infrastructure, who supplies tools to MCI's software developers. "Since we do both 16- and 32-bit development, the latest version of Borland C++ is the perfect solution for our development needs."
Borland C++ 4.5, the latest version of Borland's award-winning, best-selling C and C++ software development system for DOS, Windows, and Win 32, provides software developers with the most comprehensive set of tools, including one programming environment for both 16- and 32-bit development, easy OLE 2.0 development, and the ability to use VBX controls within 16- and 32-bit applications. Borland C++ and Database Tools combines Borland C++ 4.5, the Borland Database Engine 2.0 for Windows, and SQL Links 2.0 for Windows into one package. Borland C++ and Database Tools allows software developers to build Windows 3.1 database applications with transparent access to multiple data sources, including dBASE, Paradox, and ODBC-compliant data sources. Borland C++ 2.0 for OS/2, the latest version released in December, now includes ObjectWindows Library (OWL), so developers can now take applications written in 16- or 32-bit Windows and move them easily to OS/2 Warp.
Borland C++ 4.5 carries a suggested retail price of $499.95, with a special upgrade price of $149.95 for owners of any previous versions of Borland C++. Current owners of any other Borland product and owners of Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual C++ Watcom or Symantec C or C++ products have a special price of $199.95.
