Lake Starnberg
Munich's nearest lake is about 20 km long and 5 km wide. It is a
popular day excursion for the Munich community. Over 49 km of
lakeshore are reserved for recreation only. Four ships sail on the
lake.
River rafting on the Isar
Romantic trip on traditional wooden river rafts through the beautiful Isar valley. Departure point is Wolfratshausen, a small town south of Munich, situated in the Isar valley.
Glentleitn
Splendid open-air museum, displaying farm buildings and handicrafts. You can watch potters and other craftsmen at work. The museum is situated about 1 1/2 hours by car south of Munich near Lake Kochelsee.
Kö nigsee
10 km long emerald-green mountain lake. It is considered the pearl of Berchtesgadener Land. Some of the most magnificent panorama views all over Bavaria can be found here. To preserve the clarity and tranquillity of the water only electric boats have
been allowed on the lake since 1909.
Neuschwanstein
World-famous sight. Dream castle of King Ludwig II., built on a steep rock in the seclusion of the mountain world. Close by are the old castle of Hohenschwangau and the clear lake Alpsee. About two hours by car from Munich.
Blutenburg
Romantic moated water-castle with late-gothic chapel from the 15th century. The main building houses the International Youth Library, in the gate-tower is the Erich-Kä stner memorial site, while in another wing overlooking two small lakes, are a
concert-hall and restaurant.
