Dr. Oliver Obst: Biographical notes
I was born September, 10th 1958 in Mönchengladbach,
Northrhine-Westfalia (Germany) and enjoyed my first school day at
Rheydt-Odenkirchen
in 1965.
After graduating from the secondary school I studied biology
(M.S.) and computer sciences at the RWTH Aachen and the
Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. My thesis (1984) was about
the host-parasite-interaction between wheat and Puccinia
Graminis. After finishing civil service I confered a doctor's
degree at the
Institute of Physiology/Medical Faculty RWTH Aachen. In the
dissertation (1991) I examined the pathophysiological action
of
the stress hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine on the
heart.
From 1988 til 1993 I organized clinical studies at the "Center
for the early detection and prevention of vascular and
circulation diseases Aachen".
After the dissertation I absolved a study of librarianship at
the
Graduate School of Library & Information Science
Köln.
In my thesis (1993) I
investigated
the effects of electronic information on medical libraries,
medical professionals, and their information needs.
In 1993 I became subject specialist at the University & State
Library Münster. My other responsibilities are internet
and
database management, supervisor of the chemical branch
library,
associate head of the central medical library and of the
computer
department.
