Cmdr. Krando was born in Oklahoma, USA to Joshua Krando, an African American and Hyacinth Smalltrees, a Native American Indian. As an infant the family moved to Corpus Christie, Texas where she spent much of her childhood.

Her scholastic records from early years were not exemplary in the least and she had a history of getting into trouble and refusing to accept authority. She was kicked out of many prep schools until she was no longer accepted to any. At this point, her father, a space freighter pilot, took personal charge of his daughter and began taking her on missions.

This routine went on for a couple of years, but her behaviour got more rebellious and uncontrollable. She refused to accept her father's advise and counselling. He tried to tutor her the best he could. The only thing she showed even a glimmer of interest in was the rare time he let her sit in the pilot's seat and breifly fly the various crafts they were on.

Krando's life attitude changed drastically on her father's last mission.

On a routine cargo delivery near the Neutral Zone, his craft was attacked by a band of marauding pirates. Badly wounded in the ship to ship combat he could no longer pilot the ship. Jill was not capable of the delicate and quick manuvers necessary to avoid being disabled and boarded. She hid in an air duct. She witnessed the cruelty the pirates enacted on her father. She witnessed him being thrown out the ship through a blown air lock.

When the pirates had what they wanted from the ship, it was left adrift, with the young girl still on board. It was weeks before she was rescued by a fleet Science Vessel.

From here she went back to earth to her mother, and it appears she studied in earnest to the ends she's acheived to date.

LtCmdr. Krando is still unruly and undisciplined at times BUT is an excellent pilot and a fine officer.
