Bruins Re-Sign Power Forward Cam Neely

BOSTON (Reuters) -- The Boston Bruins Friday re-signed rugged right wing Cam Neely, who was a restricted free agent, to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the contract calls for an automatic one-year extension if certain conditions are met in the second year.

Neely, a four-time All-Star, is known as one of the top goal-scorers in the National Hockey League, though he has battled injuries throughout his career. He missed 177 of a possible 248 games before last season.

``Were very happy to have Cam's contract completed,'' said Bruins president and general manager Harry Sinden. ``He's an important part of the Bruins and the Boston community and I'm sure our fans are as pleased as I am that he will remain in a Bruins uniform.''

The 30-year-old Neely, a 13-year veteran, missed only six games last season and had 27 goals and 14 assists for 41 points. He was plus-seven and had 16 power-play goals, three better than Owen Nolan and Donald Audette for the league lead. Neely also tallied five game-winners.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound Neely has been a 50-goal scorer three times, including hs 50 in 44 games in 1993-94. His 55 goals in 1989-90 established a Bruins record for right wings and he notched 51 goals the following season.

In 677 career games, Neely has 369 goals and 279 assists for 648 and 1,210 penalty minutes. In 93 playoff ames, Neely has 57 goals and 32 assists for 89 points and 168 penalty minutes.
