Additional Keystone Supporters Announced Silicon Graphics, Inc.

Entertainment Industry Leaders Adopt Silicon Studio's Keystone Initiative

Microsoft Among Companies To Adopt Software Standards Enhancing Next-Generation Content Development

Silicon Studio Inc. announced on January 25, 1995 that an additional 17 entertainment industry leaders have joined its Keystone(tm) software initiative. Pioneered by Silicon Studio, this new initiative provides the entertainment community with common application standards that greatly streamline the creative and production process with minimal data administration. This recent round of new Keystone supporters, representing a majority of the industry, brings to 22 the number of industry leaders that have joined with Silicon Studio in response to the demand for a more cohesive and integrated content development environment.

With these new additions, the Keystone initiative now represents four key segments of the entertainment industry, including not only the companies creating content tools, but also the professionals creating the most compelling imagery in the industry. As Keystone initiative supporters, these companies will conform to the new open development standard for content creation set forth by Silicon Studio, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silicon Graphics, Inc. The new Keystone initiative supporters are:

"The industry's rapid adoption of Keystone speaks to the importance of this initiative and the commitment to address the key issues facing professional content developers, like R/GA. This standard has multiple benefits to everyone developing code -- including non-commercial code," noted Robert M. Greenberg, president and CEO of R/GA Digital Studios Inc. "To stay competitive, we must minimize our time spent managing data or learning new applications. Keystone specifically addresses these critical issues and will allow our staff more time to be creative." "The diversity of these new participants is especially significant. Keystone support doesn't stop with application developers, but now involves companies creating code for real-time internal use, as well as non-technical groups committed to ensuring the community will work well together," said Mike Ramsay, president of Silicon Studio. "We are extremely pleased with the acceptance of the Keystone initiative and welcome the participation of these and future supporters in the leadership position Silicon Studio is taking."

These companies join charter Keystone supporters Adobe Systems, Alias Research Inc., Avid Technologies, ELECTROGIG and Wavefront Technologies. The Keystone initiative will result in an open environment for software tools that includes the definition of an application framework. Open to all developers, the Keystone initiative breaks new ground by enabling data interchange for all media types, including 3D, and by creating a common interface metaphor for all areas of digital media and film and video creation, dramatically broadening the acceptance of next-generation sophisticated content creation tools. Initial demonstrations of Keystone functionality are planned for the National Association of Broadcasters conference in April.

Common functionality through the Keystone initiative is a natural complement to Silicon Graphics' robust offering of content development environments including an extensive feature set, multitasking capabilities, the industry's highest-capacity system bandwidth, and binary-compatible products. Silicon Studio solutions allow the integration of Silicon Graphics technology through seamless connectivity with Macintosh(r), proprietary and other production systems.
