Paris Grand Prix

It's late afternoon on the last Sunday in June, the date every year since 1857 of the Paris Grand Prix at Longchamp Racecourse. The people riding in the carriages are on their way home from the Bois de Bologne headed for L'Etoile, named for the five roads that converged there in the 18th century. Now 12 avenues radiate from the Arch of Triumph that celebrates the victories of Napoleon.

By the way, it was Napoleon III who opened Longchamp.
