GILS Objectives

• Public uses GILS to discover sources of information throughout Federal government, directly or through intermediaries such as public libraries, private sector
• Includes publicly accessible information
• Ensures reasonable ability to access the information
• Protects rights of privacy and intellectual property
• Minimizes barriers to direct users (e.g. equipment, software required, cost, technical complexity)
• Evaluates how well objectives are being met
