The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (FhG) with its 46 institutes is the leading organization of applied research in Germany (map). It conducts research according to the demand in the domestic and international R&D markets. With its decentralized structure it plays an important role in German R&D infrastructure while using its multidisciplinary network of institutes to solve complex problems. The head office is in Munich.
