The University of Calgary Diving Club was formed by Lawrence Smuk (Michaels) in 1973. Notable first divers included Frank Dunn, Allan and Kathy Scurfield, Brent Grisdale, Marcia Raymond, Allison Godfrey and Monique Lahey.

1980 saw Canadian Olympian Ken Armstrong take on the head coach duties. Prominent divers included Kathy Keleman, Michael Morant, Debbie and Wendy Fuller and within two years the club won it's first National Team Pennant. In 1984 Ken, Kathy and Mike and the rest of Team Canada were bound for Los Angeles and the Olympics.

That same year Don McGavern was hired as the first General Manager of a new sport concept know as Dive Calgary and in 1985 initiated a major talent identification program which attracted 1000 participants between the ages of 8 - 12 years. Some of these Dino-Mite divers still diving are Cindy Aiello, Neil Barrett, Chris LePoole, Pat McCashin and Kirsten Sheppard. Upon Don's retirement Allison Godfrey and Glen Music co-shared the coaching duties.

By 1989 Glen had assumed all coaching responsibilities and was joined by Hui Tong (1988 Men's World Platform Champion) in 1990.

Dive Calgary Sports Society is very proud of its roots and the progress it has made throughout the past 20 years. These accomplishments are a direct result of the hours of dedication of coaches, divers and parents.
