Doorway to the Dungeon

Starting Off on the Web

Well, you've done it. You're hooked up to the internet and you've just put your lips around the fire hose of information. Where to from here? Here are some good sites to help you make it through the jungle.

Finding What You Need

There are a whole whack of sites that let you search the Web and the net for information. My personal favorite is the Lycos Web Crawler. In fact, I use it so much more than any of the other search pages, I don't even keep links to the others around.

Getting It Organized

There are also a lot of index sites floating around the Web. These sites organize the data on the Web, making it easier to browse. Of these, I like The Yahoo List most. Other good indices are The EINet Galaxy and The Global Network Navigator. The home page for Mosaic Netscape also provides some good starting points.

What About the Software?

Well, if you're reading this, you must have a Web browser of some sort. However, you may not have the latest and greatest browser around. Netscape is my favorite, and is probably the most popular Web browser out there. NCSA Mosaic is also very good, and EINet's WinWeb and MacWeb work well on systems with limited resources.
