Shopping in Calgary

Should you be overcome by a need to shop, rest assured that Calgary has enough malls and shops to keep you entertained for soem time. Like any North-American city, Calgary has a wealth of shopping malls and areas.

The largest mall in the city is "Chinook Centre", located on Macleod Tr. S., near Glenmore Trail, and a short walk from the "Chinook" C-Train station. Further down Macleod Tr. is South Centre Mall, somewhat smaller but nicer. Other malls in the city include Market Mall, on Shagganappi Tr. N.W. (not far from the University of Calgary), North Hill Mall, at the interesection of 14th Ave and 16th St. N.W., Sunridge Centre on 36th St. N.E., and Scotia Centre, just off the C-Train line on second St. S.W.

If malls are not your style, then consider either the pedestrian 8th Ave. mall downtown, or possibly the Kensington Area of the city. Kensington is home to a number of "trndy" shops where you can find new-age paraphenalia, enviromentally friendly products, used books, hand-made items, and even some marital aids if you are so inclined. Cafes and small restaurants are also found in the Kensington area, along with the city's only "alternative" movie house (The Plaza). All this, and more, can be found just a few blocks away from the "Sunnyside" C-Train station.

If you are interested in pioneer artifacts and antiques, these can be found in any of the numerous stores to be found in the nearby towns of Bragg Creek and Cochrane (also home to an ice-cream parlor that Calgarians consider a "must-do" during the summer).
