Oktoberfest Costume and Riflemen's Parade
Sunday, September 17th, 1995

Begins at 10 am and lasts about 2 hours. World-famous festive climax on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest. The Costume und Riflemen's Parade impressively reflects the interesting diversity of customs rooted in the heartland of Bavaria, in Franconia, Swabia, the German 'Lä nder' or Federal States, and neighboring European countries. A varied succession of regional costume groups, historical uniforms, marching bands, riflemen, thoroughbred horses, oxen, cows, goats, decorated wagons of the Munich breweries, floats displaying typical local traditions and historical coaches pass by in a 7-kilometer-long procession through the streets of the city centre. Many ribboned trees, harvest crowns, old craftsmen's tools and harvest produce, dancing arcs decorated with flowers, stars and crowns, trumpeters on horseback, flag-throwers and much more turn this Munich display of local customs into a brilliant highlight on the first Oktoberfest Sunday. About 7,000 performers.
Route of the parade: from the Maximilianstraße through the streets of the city center to the Oktoberfest grounds.
