FTP Sites for Apple related software
The following FTP and WWW sites contain shareware, freeware and demo software
which run on Apple products. Please read the notice
about the conditions under which this listing is supplied.
Macintosh, A/UX, and Newton sites are listed here.
These sites are in no way endorsed by Apple Computer. This listing is provided
as a service to our customers.
Macintosh shareware sites and indexes
- Info-Mac mirrors
- The Info-Mac archive staff have provided this hyperlinked list of mirror
sites for the Info-Mac archive, including information about how quickly the
mirrors are updated. Mirror sites are available world-wide. Using a mirror
geographically near you will reduce download times.
- Info-Mac HyperArchive
- A searchable mirror of the
Info-Mac archive at MIT. Each file in the archive is linked with its submission
abstract. Read the abstracts for a preview of the shareware available.
Directory listings are available in alphabetical and reverse chronological order.
- University of Michigan Mac Archive
- Another major Macintosh shareware site. Many sites on the Info-Mac Mirrors
list mirror both
Info-Mac and the UMich Mac Archive. Try a mirror site if this one is busy. Or try
mirror.apple.com's UMich mirror.
- UBUdex HyperIndex.
- UBUdex indexes the UMich Mac Archive. Index entries include size, upload date,
compression format, and descriptions of the files available. Links to downolad the
files point to the Merit Network Information Center gopher mirror of the
UMich archive. UBUdex also provides a list of UMich mirror sites
- The Macintosh Software Catalog from NEXOR
- The Mac Software Catalog is a searchable World Wide Web interface to the
UMich Mac Archive provided as a public service of NEXOR, in the UK. Each file is indexed with
a descriptive abstract as well as size and upload date.
The index provides five links download sites for each file:
two are UK sites, and two are Michigan sites. The fifth link, "others,"
reveals a list of mirror sites world wide with links directly to the
file being indexed. About half of the mirror sites are outside the US.

- Apple Business Systems is hosting a mirror site for the
Info-Mac Archive, the UMich Mac Archive and the A/UX and Mac archives from jagubox.fsgc.nasa.gov.
Accessible via World Wide Web or FTP, the mirror.apple.com server is an
an Apple Workgroup Server 95 running the A/UX 3.1.1 operating system.
- Internet resources for Macintosh support
- This site at the University of Washington focuses on Internet tools for
supporting Macintosh users. Contains useful tools for network administrators
and Macintosh users on the Internet. The Macintosh
WWW Development Tools and Guides lists WWW authoring tools, Macintosh web
server tutorials and CGI tools.
- TidBITS FTP site
- The TidBITS site is also focused on Internet tools. It selectively
mirrors the Info-Mac /comm directory in ftp.tidbits.com/pub/tidbits/tisk/
and provides selected Internet tools for Macintosh internet users in ftp.tidbits.com/pub/select/.
A/UX shareware
- jagubox
- The jagubox ftp archive contains A/UX related files, Macintosh related tools
and a grab bag area. Try this site for A/UX patches, security, technotes and WWW
tools. Don't forget that mirror.apple.com contains a complete jagubox mirror
- Newton Archive at the University of Iowa
- A thoroughly organized site, accessible via WWW or FTP. The WWW version contains additional
links to Newton resources around the world. The site also contains Newton FAQ's
and tips.
- AMUG Newton Site
- The Arizona Macintosh Users Group ftp server's Newton directory has over
1500 files. It is also accessible at the second AMUG FTP site. See AMUG's Newton Page for more
information about the site and its mirrors. The AMUG Newton site folders are organized
with the same structure used by eWorld's World of Newton.
- University of Texas Newton Information
- A directory of Newton Information sites, with pointers to ftp sites with Newton files. As this
site suggests, be sure to try the Info-Mac Newton archives. Available
at mirror.apple.com under Info-Mac.Archive/Newton/
