Jupiter: Last Blemish and Fireball
(STScI-PR94-28)

As WF/PC2 cycled through several filters while observing Jupiter, the W impact was observed. In this dramatic sequence of images, the plume is first seen in the green filter. As HST cycled through the methane (CH4) filters, the rising plume and its subsequent collapse can be seen "pancaking" back down onto Jupiter's cloudtops. Note that the last two methane images show bright features in Jupiter's cloud deck -- these are the remnants of the K impact.
