Final Data - Support

The following are frequently asked questions about Final Data for the Amiga. If you have a question about Final Data for the Amiga, you may send email to Technical Support (fdata.support@softwood.com).

Question: When I sort a column of numbers, the sorted order is wrong. How can I sort numerically?
Answer: While creating a database, you are given the chance to tell Final Data what type of data you expect to store in each column. If you create a "Text" column and then store numbers in it, the sorted order of that column will probably not be the order you wanted (ie. 1, 10, 11, 12, ... 2, 20, 21, 22, etc.). To ensure that numbers will be sorted in the order you would expect, you will need to define the column as an "Amount" type. If the problem is in an existing database, you can use a new feature of Final Data Release 3 to change a column's type by highlighting the column (click once on the column's name) and choosing "Redefine..." from the "Column" menu.

Question: I have three columns: "Hours", "Rate" and "Total". I want to make the "Total" column equal to "Hours" multiplied by "Rate". How can I do this?
Answer: First, you will need to make sure that the "Hours" and "Rate" columns were setup as an "Amount" type and "Total" should be a "Calc" type. When defining the "Total" column, click on the rectangular "Calc" button. This will give you the "Calc Options" requester. The first thing you should notice is that "Hours" and "Rate" are listed under the "Columns" section on the left side. Single click "Hours". Click the round button just to the left of the "*" below the "Formula=" data entry area (the "*" button is just below the "2" button). Single click "Rate". The "Formula=" data entry area should now have "Hours *Rate". Click "OK", click "Accept" and then click "OK" again. Enter some data into the "Hours" and "Rate" columns. The "Total" column should display the appropriate results.
