Highlights:
  • Powerful, fast, and efficient 32 bit application. Loads quickly and runs great in low memory situations.
  • Easy to learn and use. Commands are obvious and easily remembered. Powerful document creation with a minimal amount of learning and effort.
  • Fast typing and editing.

  • Electronic mail support. Send documents as mail and faxes directly from Final Writer via the Windows® 95 mail system.
  • Reads and writes Rich Text Format (RTF) documents which allows you to share documents with other word processors and applications.
Word Processing:
  • Paragraph style sheets. Named paragraph style sheets specify type characteristics, paragraph settings, and tab stops.
  • Multiple left and right master pages. Place repeating items such as page numbers, headers, footers, and graphics on master pages.
  • Headers and Footers. Headers (items at the top of a page) and footers (items at a bottom of a page) can be defined in master pages, or easily set up in a dialog.
  • Sections. Organize your document by separating it into sections. Each section can have its own editing, column, master pages, and page settings.
  • Text Clips. Often-used, formatted text such as salutations, FAX headings, Memo headings, legal wording, phrases, and names may be created and saved. Later, instead of retyping the text, recall a text clip for insertion in a document.
  • Table of Contents generation. Table of Contents can be created containing up to seven levels of entries. Each level has its own Paragraph Style for easy and consistent formatting.
  • Index generation. An index is generated from index entries that you specify.
  • Table of Illustrations generation. Automatically create a list of names of graphics and text blocks included in a document.
  • Left, right, center, and decimal tab stops are set conveniently in the ruler.
  • Bibliography. Bibliography entries are listed in alphabetical order.
  • Endnotes. Endnote markers are automatically numbered and renumbered as Endnotes are inserted in a document. Endnotes can be generated in any one of three formats: left justified, flush and hang, and indented.
  • Left, right, center, and full text alignment.
  • Multiple columns.
  • Search and replace.
  • Automatic page numbering. Pages may be numbered in several formats including numeric, roman, and alphabetic. Pages may be numbered by section or for the whole document.

User Interface:
  • OLE support. Final Writer is an OLE client that lets you embed, link, and edit OLE objects directly within documents. Objects such as pictures, sounds, animations, video, spreadsheets, etc., can be part of any Final Writer document.
  • Editable zoom magnifications. Documents may be viewed and fully edited in 20 percent to 200 percent magnification levels.
  • Real-time scrolling. When you drag a scroll button, the document moves accordingly giving you accurate positioning.
  • Configurable command strips. Define which icons and which commands you want in a command strip. Define up to eight command strips which can be visible as window borders or palettes.
  • Click tabs for accessing pages and sections. Final Writer is the first word processor on any computer to provide page and section navigation via click tabs. Page and master page click tabs are displayed at the top of a window, and section click tabs are displayed at the bottom of the window. Click tabs are optional and may be hidden or displayed at any time. Click tabs provide the fastest way to navigate through a document.
  • Drag and Drop. Three forms of drag and drop are supported: text editing, document printing, and document opening. During text editing, text may be dragged and dropped anywhere in the same document or into another document window.
  • Undo/Redo.
  • Fully Windows® 95 and Windows® NT(tm) compatible.
  • Optional top and left rulers can be shown in inches, metric, or picas.
Graphics:
  • Graphics are managed as independent objects. Objects include: built-in drawings, imported graphics, and text blocks. Objects can be moved, sized, rotated, cropped, depth arranged, rotated, grouped, and ungrouped.
  • Real-time text flow around graphics. Three modes of text flow are supported: contour (follows irregular shape of graphic), vertical (follows vertical frame of graphic), and none (flows on top of graphic). Text flow occurs in real time while you type. Whenever an object (graphic or text block) is moved, text automatically reflows according to the text flow mode assigned to the object.
  • Movable Text Blocks. Use Text Blocks for headlines, captions, column heads, etc. Text blocks have full type specifications including font, style, color, and more. Text blocks can be moved anywhere on a page.
  • Drawing tools for lines, rectangles, ovals, rounded cornered rectangles, perfect squares, perfect circles, and polygons.
  • All built-in drawing tools have settings which include border thickness, border color, interior color, fill patterns, transparency, and text flow mode. These settings may be redefined at any time.
