Final Calc - Support

The following are frequently asked questions about Final Calc for the Amiga. If you have a question about Final Writer for the Amiga, you may send email to Technical Support (fcalc.support@softwood.com).

Question: I want to print my spreadsheet. But, when I do a Print Preview or Print I get character-sized rectangles instead of the letters and numbers I was expecting. What's wrong?
Answer: This happens when swpost.library does not find the font file needed for your printout. If you follow the instructions below, your Final Calc font settings will be reset so that swpost.library will find the fonts:
  1. Put Final Calc Disk 1 in a floppy drive.
  2. Start an AmigaShell by double-clicking it in "System" folder on the boot partition of your hard drive.
  3. Type the following into the AmigaShell:
      copy "FinalCalc Disk 1:lhex" c:
      cd ENVARC:FinalCalc
      lhex x "FinalCalc Disk 2:FCenv.lha" font.list
      cd FinalCalc:Fonts
      lhex x "FinalCalc Disk 2:FCdeffont.lha"
      lhex x "FinalCalc Disk 3:FCfonts.lha"

  4. You may now close the AmigaShell.
  5. Start FinalCalc.
  6. In the "Settings" menu, select "Outline Font Paths" from the "Print" sub-menu.
  7. If "FinalCalc:Fonts" is not one of the three directories, add it to any one of the three.
  8. Click "Save".
That should do it! You should now be able to print successfully.

Question: I bought Final Calc, but I don't know how to use a spreadsheet. Can you help me get started?
Answer: Sure. Let's try a simple checkbook register. If Final Calc is running, choose "Quit" from the "Project" menu. Answer "Yes" to all requesters that say, "This is the last view on the project. Shut it down?". When a requester says, "No more projects are active. Quit Program?", click "No".
You should now have a fresh sheet.
In cell A3 type "Check No." and press ENTER.
In cell B3 type "Date" and press ENTER.
In cell C3 type "Payee" and press ENTER.
In cell D3 type "Description" and press ENTER.
In cell E3 type "Withdrawal" and press ENTER.
In cell F3 type "Deposit" and press ENTER.
In cell G3 type "Balance" and press ENTER.
By drag-selecting, highlight cells B4 to B50. From the "Type" sub-menu in the "Format" menu, choose "Date 1".
Highlight E4 to G50 and choose "Currency" from the "Type" sub-menu in the "Format" menu. Also choose "2" from the "Decimals" sub-menu in the "Format" menu.
In cell B4 type "today" and press ENTER. Today's date should appear in the cell.
In cell D4 type "Starting balance" and press ENTER.
In cell F4 type "1000" and press ENTER.
In cell G4 type "=F4" and press ENTER. Both F4 and G4 should have "$1000.00" in them.
In cell A5 type "101" and press ENTER.
In cell B5 type "tomorrow" and press ENTER.
In cell C5 type "Local Amiga dealer" and press ENTER.
In cell D5 type "Quad PowerPC Amiga 7000" and press ENTER.
In cell E5 type "876.47" and press ENTER.
In cell G5 type "=G4-E5+F5" and press ENTER. Cell G5 should have "$123.53" in it.
Click once in cell G5 and choose "Copy" from the "Copy" sub-menu in the "Edit" menu.
Highlight cells G6 to G50. Choose "Paste" from the "Paste" sub-menu in the "Edit" menu.
You may now enter additional transactions and watch the balance automatically update itself. I suggest you save this example spreadsheet so you can refer back to it in the future, if needed.
