"Out of Memory" Error

Product: Toaster 3.0

Platforms: 2000 3000 3000T 4000 4000T

Problem: On attempt to install 3.0, get part of the way through the installation and get an error message saying, Out of Memory---Installation stopped.

1) This can result from actually not having enough RAM (at least 10 MB FAST RAM is required). Add RAM to the system.

2) Too many other programs active in memory during installation. You should always deactivate any other programs, commodities, or WorkBench extensions when doing a Video Toaster installation.

3) The install routine cannot get enough contiguous RAM. The items mentioned in point 2 above can cause this. If RAM is split between 16-bit and 32-bit (common with Amiga 2000 systems), then the system may not be able to get enough contiguous RAM. You may need to add additional 32-bit RAM to complete the install.

Curiously enough, this problem can occur even when there is 10 MB or more of 32-bit RAM on a system, more than enough to allow for the install. The problem may be in the way the Amiga is attempting to allocate RAM from both the 16 and 32 nbit RAM spaces. Removing the 16-bit RAM temporarily to do the install will often work.

4) One user reports: "The solution was to boot from a floppy, re-assign L: S: FONTS:, etc to the hard drive, then I could re-install. I was literally bytes away from having enough free ram available. The floppy boot free'd up that last little bit."
