Recall Part Description:
The error on those boards which require recall is the installation of a 6-volt capacitor on a line which requires
a 16-volt part. Since this power trace feeds through this part and from there to most of the board, symptoms can
range from none at all to virtually anything. Boards especially sensitive to heat or susceptible to random failure
and crashing should be suspect, especially if another Flyer can operate properly in the same installation.
The recall affects boards of revision CS445 only. CS440 boards do not have the problem. On the side of the Flyer
which has the port headers and most of the components, at the bottom edge of the end which would be at the front of
the computer when the board is installed, look for the following text:
JP11 VERSION 1 RELEASE 1 CS445
If you find that text, then turn your board over, and face the end with the RCA ports toward you. Just one inch inward
from the second RCA port from your right, there are a row of three surface mount capacitors, which look like small
rectangular chips. If the first is marked "68-6V", your board requires repair.
Call 913-228-8282, inform Technical Support that you have a recall board, and need an RMA (Return Materials Authorization).
To assist you in checking your board, two ToasterPaint RGB drawingshave been included with this archive.
They illustrate how to identify your board as one which may have the defect part, and how to locate and confirm whether you have the
recall part or a proper capacitor on your board.
