Once upon a time, there was no very easy way of saving your cool Lightwave3D rendered images directly in a web-ready, interlaced and possibly partially transparent format. That was before Gif.p came along.
Gif.p is a freely distributable image saver plugin for Lightwave3D. This plugin adds 2 entries to the Image Format list, Gif and Gif_NoBkg. Both save 256-color interlaced images, and the latter uses the rendered alpha channel to fill the image background with a transparent color! This saver is mainly intended for producing web images for browsers like Netscape which can take advantage of the transparency, and even use Java applets to animate a series of Gif images. This saver is provided compliments of Arnie Cachelin. It uses the GD Library by Thomas Boutell and the Quest Center at Cold Spring Harbor Labs.
