The Printer Preference Editor The Printer Preference editor lets you select the printer driver you wish to use with your Amiga.

To chose a printer driver for your Amiga first make sure you have the printer driver that your printer needs in your devs:printers directory. If it is not check your Storage:printers directory for the driver that you need.

The Printer Type scroll box shows a list of all available printer drivers available. To choose one simply click on the corresponding name in that box.. If you do not have a driver for your printer choose the generic printer driver.

The Printer Preferences editor has the following other options:

Printer Port

• Specifies the port where the printer is attached. If you select serial make sure the serial preferences editor is configured to show this.

Printer Pitch 

• Specifies the DOT PITCH (Characters Per Inch). The higher the number the narrower the characters. options include Pica, Elite, and Fine.

Printer Spacing

• Specifies the number of lines of text that are printed in one vertical inch of space.

Print Quality

• Determines the quality of the printout. Draft mode produces faster, lower quality printouts, where as, Letter produces slower, higher quality printouts.

Paper Type

• Determines the type of paper being used with your printer. Options include continuous or single feed.

Paper Format

• Specifies the size of the paper used. One can customize this setting by selecting custom.

Paper Length

The total number of lines of text possible on the page.

Left Margin

The width in number of characters from the left edge of the paper to the starting text position.

Right Margin

The width in number of characters from the right edge of the paper to the starting text position.

Device Unit

The Device Unit text gadget appears only if the UNIT Tool Type is selected. Used to direct to a specific port.
