Solid Lines Appear Broken when Drawing with Paintbrush

Issue: When using the default drawing tool in the Windows® 3.x Paintbrush application, a solid line appears to be broken into several pieces when drawn. This issue occurs when using the Cirrus Logic on-board video drivers at any resolution set for 256 colors on the two Anigma GAT motherboards (part numbers MBDPCI008AAWW and MBDPCI008ABWW).

Resolution: Cirrus Logic has written new, updated video drivers for the Windows® 3.x operating system that will correct the Paintbrush issue. The new video drivers, part # VIDDSX014ABWW, version 1.22, are located on Gateway 2000's FTP site. The file names are GAT122D1.EXE and GAT122D2.EXE.

Note: The Windows® Super VGA driver does not appear to exhibit this issue when set at 256 colors.

The following are the steps to take to update the drivers for the on-board video.

  1. Download the new version of the video drivers. You must download both of the above files.
  2. When through downloading, make a new directory.
  3. Copy the two files into the new directory.
  4. In File Manager, double click on the two EXE files to expand them.
  5. Once the files are expanded, double click on the INSTALL.EXE file.
  6. The installation program will begin. Follow the instructions on the screen to properly install the new drivers.
